Chimney Pots

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

WELLS Somerset.

CLEVEDON, Nr Bristol.

I have a passion for chimney pots and always seem to be snapping pictures of them, like the picture of the house above and the whole street above that!  I am not sure why I like them so much, but I find them fascinating.

I was snapping away as I do, while I was in Scarborough earlier on in the year. I nearly discarded this picture altogether as the chimney pots were not terribly interesting. Then I noticed the background. I hadn't noticed Scarborough Castle in the distance! It was a murky kind of day and the horizon was misty, giving a kind of ethereal feel to it. The castle is just a ruin now, but the site goes back to Roman times!

This is my story and these are my photos for Photostory Friday hosted by Cicely & MamaGeek

Great pictures, particularly the first one. All chimneys so neatly arranged in a line.

Great photos of chimney pots. You are right, they are fascinating -and very photogenic.

When my parents had to move out of their terraced house, because it had been bought by the council, under a compulsory purchase order, they gave me the chimney pots. They had moved into the house, when my mother was pregnant, with me, and they lived there for 50 years. The chimney pots mean such a lot to the 3 of us and I plant them up, every summer, with pink impatiens.

I was very sad to read about your daughter's and son-in-law's situation, in one of your earlier blogs. I am so sorry that things have turned out this way, but your daughter has obviously made the best decision. She has been very courageous and I wish you all the very best of everything.

Wow. Great pictures, and I looked at them before I read the post and I, too, thought that third picture was the best! Very nice.

That first shot? Perfection. The repetition just sets it off against that sky! Well done!

What a small world, we will be going to Scarborough on Sunday. It is only 35 miles away!

PS The header is of Jo my goose. He is often mistaken for a duck! LOL!

He's gorgeous!

I've never seen any chimney pots like it. We don't have those here in the Netherlands. They must be unique to Britain.

I love LOVE that first shot. I can totally see that matted and framed on a wall. MY wall, actually. :)

great pots! there are some excellent ones at framlingham castle if you're ever down that way - and you can get up real close to those for stroking purposes.

i have a love of walls.

Lovely photographs. I don't blame you, Maggie, for finding these chimney pots fascinating. To me, they evoke comfort.

I love the first picture, those houses look very unusual, where are they?

Thanks for being a follower, by the way!

I think about all the people who have sat by fires in houses with lots of chimney pots. What were they dreaming of, or coping with, of rejoicing over? Your pictures are terrific.

I love these. I took some photos of chimney pots while I was in Hungary and thought myself nuts for doing so. Now I know I'm in good company for loving them!

Wow that last one is so opportune! Well done! I love how the castle is silhouetted in the background.

I love those chimney pots too. The first photo is really unusual. Somerset always makes me think of summer. I wonder if it is always summer there....

Loved the castle! It looks so spooky in all its ruin. Chimney pots are unique - almost as if they grew like that.

I admire anyone who is passionate about something -- even chimney pots. That architecture is so neat, we have nothing like that here -- at least not in the West. Beautiful shots -- I really like the first one.

I found the pictures of the chimney pots to be quite fascinating. I've never seen anything like that before. And also, the bit of history about the castle ruins and it dating back to Roman Times -one tends to forget that Britain has been a civilized country back that far in time.

Brilliant pics! I like chimney pots too, especially the ones on large old mansions where the bricks twist around in a spiral!
That last photo is quite sureal :)

I like the pictures, but the last one with the castle in the background is my favorite.
